Project: "The Art & Science of Public Health" Promotional CalendarSeries Finale
Client: Valent BioSciences
Description: We helped biorational solution provider Valent BioSciences break new ground in the public health community—creatively and philosophically—with its award winning “Art & Science” calendar series. Stunning watercolor images of mosquitoes communicated better than words that, to Valent BioSciences, there is art in the science of working with nature.
The 2016 “Art & Science” calendar highlighted some of the most significant moments in public health history – times when innovation, ingenuity, and the indomitable human spirit combined to make a difference for generations to come.
"Achieving effective control of these threats is truly an art—combining in-depth knowledge of species behavior and habitat preference with application techniques honed by years of experience."
About the artists: Dr. Catherine L.E. Craker’s passion for entomological illustration was born through revising field guides for mosquito identification. While she had no formal art training, the critical observation skills she honed as a scientist helped her capture the intricate details of her subjects. Dr. Craker currently teaches biology at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio.
Narda Lebo studied biomedical communication at the University of Illinois Medical Center and instructional development at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. The inspiration for her style comes from her formal training as a medical illustrator, and her love of observing how things work. Personal experiences as a pilot, an archaeologist, and a dauntless traveler have combined her drawing and painting with adventure and storytelling. When not looking for creative insight in nature and travel, Narda works from a refurbished barn in Dallas, Texas.
